ABOUT BONI BOOKS

OUR MISSION

Boni Books is dedicated to cultivating a specialized niche in the publication of African language materials for schools, libraries, and institutions of higher learning. Our mission is to advance the growth and development of African languages to foster multilingualism and social cohesion throughout South Africa. We are committed to elevating the standards of teaching and learning African languages by providing high-quality, relevant educational resources.

LEADERSHIP & OWNERSHIP

Boni Books is a 100% black female-owned enterprise led by two founding directors, Mzamokazi Mayekiso and Fikile Khuboni. Their unique and complementary expertise forms the cornerstone of the company's strategic vision and operational excellence.

Fikile Khuboni, Publishing Director

A distinguished language specialist, Ms. Khuboni holds a master’s degree in isiZulu from the University of Natal (now UKZN). Her decade-long tenure as a Senior Tutor at the University of the Witwatersrand provided her with profound insight into the critical gap in the publication and valuation of African languages within South Africa's multilingual landscape. Her extensive experience, which includes over ten years as a quality assurer for isiZulu First Language matric papers with Umalusi, revealed a pressing need for contemporary, user-friendly teaching materials. At Boni Books, she drives the publishing strategy, having already commissioned and published numerous titles. She is also passionate about professional development and mentoring for educators.

Mzamokazi Mayekiso, Marketing & Business Development Director

Ms. Mayekiso brings extensive expertise in marketing and the commercial aspects of book publishing, honed during her time at the Gaffney Group. Her experience encompasses the entire publishing value chain, from concept to end-user, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of industry operations and emerging trends. She spearheads the company's sales, marketing, and business development strategies. Additionally, she facilitates creative writing and publishing workshops to upskill aspiring and emerging authors in African languages.
